The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has newly mandated for the pre-export Roadworthiness Inspection (RWI) of used vehicles imported from Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore and South Africa.

UNBS has appointed Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center Co Ltd (JEVIC) as the inspection agency for the RWI. All used vehicles exported from the above countries will be required to be inspected by JEVIC from the 1st November 2009 (date of export).

The major points of the Uganda RWI encompasses;

• The vehicle must pass a safety and mechanical inspection (similar to a regulatory periodic Inspection).
• The vehicle should be free of CFC (R12) gas.
• UNBS regulated Inspection Fee of JPY13,625 (tax inclusive).

Note:
Neither the year of manufacture or drive (LHD / RHD) are subject to this standard.

This is a mandatory pre-export inspection. Failure to complete the inspection at the time of export could result in import exclusion, or a 15% CIF penalty fee and inspection upon arrival.

The commencement date of the inspections and available inspection sites are to be announced shortly.

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has appointed the Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center Co Ltd (JEVIC) for the Pre-Export Roadworthiness Inspection (RWI) of used vehicle from Japan, UK, Singapore, Dubai and *South Africa destined for use within the Republic of Zambia. From the 14th May 2009, all used vehicles exported from above countries will be required to be inspected by JEVIC. Inspection bookings will commence one week prior, starting from the 7th May 2009. Inspection fee is JPY13625 (inclusive of tax and ZABS administration fee).
*South Africa based inspections will commence at a later date to be confirmed.
